New site design

By

I’ve had a crazy couple of days and decided the old site design had had its day and it was time for a refresh.

Here’s a few posts that I think look really good with the new design:

Having played around with Twitter’s Bootstrap for a bit, I thought I’d give it a go as the main framework. I got on with it well and had to fiddle with only a couple of bits and pieces to get it to play ball. Their new responsive stuff is good and if you check out the site on your phone or tablet you should get an equally nice experience now. The site is also a lot simpler so it is quicker to load, and it hurts the eyes less.

Thanks to Android from where I borrowed the font for the header (Roboto from Android 4 – font nerds hate it but I quite like it) as well as the colours – thanks to the Android Design people for putting all the swatch and font files on their website.

If you spot any issues, you can reach me with the links under the “Connect” tab up there in the top right corner (if it’s a UI think I’d really appreciate a screenshot). Currently comments are disabled because I haven’t quite got round to rendering them yet (oopsey) but you could theoretically use them later if I ever got round to it.

New Google.com Design

By

Today I logged on to Google.com for the first time in several days. I immediately noticed that the design of the homepage has had a bit of an overhaul.

I had a look, and it seems that very few accounts are getting the new design – I couldn’t find mention of it on Twitter or Google (even results within the past few days).

There seem to be more than a few changes in the homepage this time round. Here’s a quick run-down.

Google Wave: The Next Revolution?

By

Last week when I had a bit of a look at Google Wave, a lot of people mentioned how it didn’t really seem like a complete product, something that was a bit of a let-down.

I’ve been having a bit of a think, and I think I can see where this one’s going.

I read a comment on a blog earlier today by Robert Scoble, and he had it exactly right when he said FriendFeed had it nearly right before they got absorbed by Facebook. I think the future is going to look a lot more like FriendFeed than anyone dares to think. Here’s why:

Revamped CV website

By

I’ve been doing a bit of work on my websites, and as well as getting a new 404 page for this domain, I have revamped my CV page.

The old design did the job but didn’t really convey where I think I’ve improved in website design and execution recently, so hopefully the new version does my skills justice.

Please check it out and let me know what you think either in the comments or in the Connect tab at the top of this page.

New Facebook Layout

By

Well well well! I was on Facebook recently scrolling through my homepage and saw a huge number of people joining various anti-facebook-new-layout groups. I tried a search, and found over 500 results for groups with title “new facebook layout” – not wanting to spend all day sifting through search results, I only found one “good” group way back on the sixth page of results :P
