Dell Adamo XPS – One to watch out for (and crave)

Its high time we had a blog post about some juicy hardware to drool over, and I don’t really want to linger on the fruit company much longer, so time for some gorgeous Windows 7-powered pure awesomeness.

Now it’s not often that I’ll start a blog post with a sentence crammed of so may words of high praise for anything, let alone a piece of hardware I haven’t even had my hands on yet. But I think you’ll agree that this one is more than worth it – the Dell Adamo XPS.

Fast Subversion

After months of struggling, hard toil, and generally getting pretty annoyed at Unfuddle, I’ve finally found the one and only way to get Subversion to run at a respectable and somewhat useful speed.

In other news, today I’ve installed and configured Subversion and Memcache and properly setup MySQL on the box labelled “Subversion Server” (it doesn’t do just that), which I think is quite an achievement considering my practically non-existent sysadmin skills.

So I live in a house with 3 computer scientists (the kind that like building their own computers and stuff), so I get my fair share of banter aimed at my “little” Dell desktop (for those interested, it’s a Vostro 200 slim tower). You can imagine what it’s like when it goes wrong – like it did this morning. I think the actual quote from one of them was “It’s all well and good having a nice processor and graphics card but it’s no good if the motherboard’s made of cardboard”.
