Upcoming Adventures

By

Next week I’m going to be in the US for 8 days. I thought I’d post the rough schedule here so if anyone I know happens to be around, it would be great to meet up!

I’m going with UKTI as part of our prize for winning the SVC2UK competition a few months back.

We fly to SF on Monday, landing late Monday afternoon Pacific time. We’re out and about in SF on Tuesday and Wednesday, Palo Alto on Thursday, then an early morning flight to Denver on to Austin on Friday morning for SXSW Interactive from Friday to Monday morning. We’re heading back to the UK on Monday afternoon, landing Tuesday morning (very tired, presumably!).

Would be great to catch up with any SF pals while we’re around (although not certain how long we will have as the schedule looks pretty stuffed) then of course anybody at SXSW. Can’t wait!

Giveaway! Beginning Android 3

Would you like the chance to get your hands on Beginning Android 3?

This book is an excellent guide to getting started building Android applications, ramping up from installing the SDK and setting up Eclipse right through to advanced Android APIs and development practices. We’ve got a copy to give away thanks to the lovely folks at Apress.

To enter: simply add a comment on this post telling us why you love Android (don’t forget to leave your e-mail address or we won’t be able to contact you!) and we’ll pick a winner at random. Don’t forget to say “hi” on Google+ too (not required for entry).

Rules: Closing date is 9pm UK time on Friday 19th August 2011. Winner will be picked at random. Prize will be available for collection from Reading or London; if you want it shipped to the UK or abroad please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do. One entry per person: multiple entries will void all of them.

Not lucky this time? Grab it on Amazon.

If you were at this month’s Reading Geek Night you would have seen an excellent presentation by James Anderson of the University of Reading on the subject of “transreal arithmetic”. This gives rise to the ability for computers to divide by zero.

James mentioned that he has another talk coming up on the subject, and the details are here:
